Abacus and Arwen sat outside of the Tipsy Turtle inn with a half empty pitcher of ale in hand and enjoyed the sun that stood high on the cloudless sky. While they might not have gotten much credit by the Silent Syndicate for their efforts in the last season, the same could not be said for the people in and around the inn. Everybody had heard of their heroic efforts and were not afraid to show their appreciation either – now that the Commissar had given them an official pardon.
Which meant that this afternoon, they were looking at people hard at work instead of participating in the stable rebuild. Arwen especially was feeling the joys of this and kept encouraging the building team to work faster with remarks that became more and more mocking as the afternoon went on.
“Give it a rest, will ya?” The Barkeeper walked towards them with a full pitcher in each hand. “I’d like them to use their strength to resurrect my stables and not to kill you. And to be honest, a couple of them look like they might be ready to give it a try.” His tone was more friendly than admonishing though and since he brought them more to drink, Arwen decided that there wasn’t much reason to make himself difficult. “Fine. It was getting old anyway.”
They both emptied their pitchers and exchanged them happily before Abacus pointed to the stables with his pitcher. ”You are expanding quite a bit, aren’t you? What is the second story for? The athletic horses? It looks like you think the entire Royal Guard will need their horses accommodated here.”
The Barkeeper sent him a smile and then shrugged. “What can I say? The Brawls are becoming quite renowned. It’s only season 3 and we have already expanded the Brawls into two different leagues and every week more and more people are showing up to watch. Who knows what the future might bring? I would look pretty stupid if the Royal Guard did come aknocking next season and I had no where to situate their horses.”
He winked at the two and turned to go inside. Arwen tipped his pitcher, but when Abacus didn’t immediately follow suit, he looked curiously at his friend. “What are you thinking about?”
“I’m not sure. But there is something here. Something…” He trailed off while he stared at the builders without really seeing them. Arwen followed his gaze instinctively. Only a second later was he on his feet – frozen in time as a rafter came loose from the roof construction and headed straight for one of the builders who was working on a wall section below. An urge to act rushed through him, but there was nothing either of them could do to prevent the disaster that was happening right before their eyes. When the rafter hit the man’s shoulder, they heard a crushing sound and a scream. They were by his side in seconds, and luckily so were the two Clerics Baba Yaga and Kirk Rezurus who had been celebrating the latest Brawl win with their teammates.
The two friends retreated to let the clerics work and came just close enough to hear the foreman’s whisper. “I don’t understand. That part of the roof was finished weeks ago.”
Week 3 of the Brawl has ended and we are starting to see a little spread in the field. At the moment we have three undefeated teams. From Division A, it is the Heroes of the Damned and from Division B, we have the Fellowship of the Bling and Guess Congress. Well done guys! The runner up in Division A is the Unlucky Bunch who is proven not to be too unlucky just yet. But it is still early in the season and nothing is won yet, so keep putting your best games on the table!
On a different note, Fighters are still dominating the divisions with an overall winrate above 65% and to top it off, Clerics and Fighters have been paired together 12 times in these last three weeks and fighters have emerged victoriously all 12 times! Despite this, Clerics are still fairing better than the Thieves that are hovering just above the 40%-mark. But levels are rising rapidly and it will be exciting to see, if this will shake things up in the weeks to come.
