The Tipsy Turtle Inn has always been a popular place to let off some steam and once upon a time; anyone who wanted to make a name for themselves in this city, knew that occupying a booth at the inn was the way to get noticed.

Fights over booths broke out multiple times a week and eventually the Barkeeper got tired of having to replace furniture and waiting for a Town Guard that always seemed to be needed elsewhere, when he called on them.

So one night he announced that he was starting a tournament behind the inn. In this tournament, mercenary bands could volunteer to be paired to fight against each other and he would then act as judge and display the results on the wall of the inn for anyone to see, while a single booth at the inn was permanently reserved for the mercenary band who occupied first place on the board. In exchange for the publicity, all participants had to agree not to be part of any fights inside the inn again or risk being banned from the tournament.

The tournament quickly proved popular and the Barkeeper ended up having his own personal guard to keep the peace at the Inn, as none of the high ranking mercenary bands would allow rule breaking and risk losing the exposure of the scoreboard. They even nicknamed him their Brawl Master to acknowledge his new position.

Announcement

Calling all Heroes of the Realms. Get ready for the Guild Wars to begin!

I am Nudeltulpe, your Brawl Master (Judge/Official) for the upcoming Brawl

We are seeking new Mercenary Bands for entry into the preliminary tournaments called Tavern Brawls. Those Brawlers who win will have the chance to recruit and form a Guild.

Tavern Brawls is a concept test of a tournament called Guild Wars which you will hopefully get to participate in soon.

The Rules of the Brawl:

A Mercenary Band is comprised of 5 Heroes, represented by one of each class (Fighter, Ranger, Wizard, Cleric, and Thief). Each Mercenary Band may only have one of each Hero represented.

Any Overseer (that means you reading) may only have one dedicated Hero at a time for the Tavern Brawl and Guild Wars tournaments (each season/event will most likely start with a new Hero).

The selected Hero may only join one Mercenary Band.

Recruiting:

Anyone may elect to be the Daredevil (Leader) of a Mercenary Band. The Daredevil must compete in the Brawl and they must have 4 other unique Overseers not involved in any other Bands. Heroes will start the brawl at level 1, with 0 XP, gaining XP and leveling up as they proceed in the Brawl. Brawling Heroes may not be used to play games outside of the Brawl, until the current season is finished.

Each Mercenary Band must have a unique name assigned to it, as does each Hero taking part in the Brawl. Players are more than welcome to provide a background story for their Heroes and/or Mercenary Bands, although this is not mandatory.

Until any Overseers have proven themselves in the Brawl (Level 1-3), they are referred to as Rascals. Veteran Brawlers (Level 4+) are called Trouble-Makers.

Format:

The Brawls will take place weekly

Each Brawl will consist of two Mercenary Bands matching up. Merc Band 1 will elect their first Hero for Match A. Merc Band 2 then decides on which of their Heroes take Match A. Then in response Merc Band 2 elects a Hero for Match B and Merc Band 1 elects one of their Heroes to match B, and so on back and forth until all the pairings are completed.

Matches will be best 2 out of 3 games, results are reported to the Brawl Master/entered in Challonge as soon as the matches are finished.

Matches are played in asynchronous games, having the Overseers paired against one another challenge each other. No more then 2 challenges should be issued at a time. The Winner of each game should post a screenshot of the result in the appropriate Thread in the Tavern-Brawl-Channel.

Both Overseers   are responsible to finish their Match (2-3 games) within one week. Failing to do so will result in a warning for both players involved, and it will be at the discretion of the Brawlmaster to declare a winner of the match or declare the match a draw. If the Brawl would result in a draw because of this happening, the two Daredevils face off in a single winner-takes-all-realtime-game. Players that receive multiple warnings may be excluded from current and/or future events after discussing the issue.

At the end of the week, all Brawls are tallied and those Mercenary Bands emerging victorious out of the majority of their matches take the win, adding a point to their Season Record. The detailed results of individual matches are not relevant for scoring/tiebreaker purposes but the score of the Brawl (typically ranging from 3-2 to 5-0) is. During a season, each Mercenary Band will have to face every other Mercenary Band in a Brawl once (Round-Robin-Tournament). At the end of the season, the two leading Mercenary Bands face off in a season finale, determining this season’s champions.

Dealing with scheduling issues:

Brawls can pause for a week, if the majority of the Daredevils agree on it and the Brawl Master does not have any objections.

Overseers are fixed for each season. In special cases like sickness or vacation, a one-time-substitute can be brought in. This has to be brought to the attention of the Brawl Master asap. The substitute Overseer will have to provide a Hero of the same class and level as the Overseer that is absent.

Additional Considerations:

This is a test tournament.  All rules may be changed due to ease of administration and / or feedback.

This will be run through Challonge

Each Daredevil is responsible for their team’s timely report of results

Each Daredevil may eject members of their Band between seasons and recruit new members if they meet qualifications (are not in any other Bands)

The ruling of the current Brawl Master on any rule or any aspect of this tournament is final.

If the Brawlmaster is competing in the event:

Whenever a decision has to be made concerning a situation where the Brawlmaster is directly involved, the decision will be made by a council of those Daredevils, whose teams are not part of said situation.

A special note on fair-play and code of conduct:

This is supposed to be a fun event for the community, so be nice to one another. Everyone can get salty for having bad luck but try not to be a sore loser or a bad (gloating) winner. Friendly trash talk and jabs are absolutely okay of course, but keep it civil. Any form of verbal abuse will not be tolerated.

If you feel like you have been treated unfairly, or have any suspicions, talk to the Brawl Master first before doing anything else.

Don’t use your Brawl-Heroes outside of the Brawl until the current season is finished or it will be considered cheating and earn you the eternal scorn of the community.

Don’t stall on purpose to turn a losing match into a draw. If that kind of suspicion is raised it will be at the discretion of the Brawl Master to declare a winner of the match.
